Where can I see a bullfight in Spain?

For many travelers visiting Spain, attending a bullfight is at the top of their list of must-see experiences. As one of the country's most iconic (and simultaneously, most controversial) traditions, bullfighting is a window into Spain's complex cultural heritage. While a few places in Spain, like Barcelona, have banned bullfighting, dozens of cities still have the tradition. If you'd like to see a bullfight during your trip to Spain, here are some of the festivals and cities where you can find one.

March

Feria del Toro (Olivenza, Badajoz) – Held in Olivenza during the the first week in March, this is an early feria of the Spanish bullfighting season. If you go, take a quick detour to Portugal - it's only a 10-minute drive away.

Feria de San José (Valencia) – Celebrated during Las Fallas (around March 19), this major early-season series includes high-profile bullfights.

Magdalena Fair (Castellón) – Held in late March as part of Semana Grande, with bullfights, rejoneos (horseback bullfighting), and novilladas (for young matadors).

April

Feria de Abril (Seville) – Usually held two weeks after Easter (Semana Santa), this is one of Spain’s most iconic festivals. The bullfights take place in La Maestranza, one of the oldest and most prestigious bullrings in Spain.

San Isidro Festival (Madrid) – One of the world’s most prestigious bullfighting events, hosted in Las Ventas arena, with daily corridas from mid-May for nearly a month.

Feria Taurina de Nuestra Señora de la Salud (Córdoba) – Late May or early June, coinciding with the Córdoba Fair.

Las Hogueras de San Juan (Alicante) – Late June celebration combining fire festivals and major bullfighting spectacles.

Fiestas del Ángel (Teruel) – June 30 to July 10, includes traditional events and bull runs.
