So, you want to join in on the excitement of running with the bulls? As long as you’re at least 18 or older and follow the Town Council’s guidelines, you’re all set! Just make sure to be between the barricades at the Town Hall (Plaza Consistorial) by 7:10 AM at the latest. Yes, it’s early, but trust us – the adrenaline will wake you right up!
Keep in mind that police will be present to ensure that all runners are sober and physically capable of participating. The requirements aren’t too demanding—if you can stand steadily, stay aware of your surroundings, dress appropriately (see below!), and don’t appear intoxicated or disruptive, you should have no trouble. There are no other specific restrictions: there is no age maximum, weight restriction, language-ability requirement, running speed requirement, or any other limitation. Just keep your composure as they scan the crowd, and you’ll be ready to hit the streets when the race begins!
To dress appropriately for the run, you'll need a comfortable, loose-fitting pair of pants with an elastic band that will keep your pants secure throughout the run. You can buy these pants in Pamplona, or you can bring them from home. You’ll also need sturdy, closed-toe shoes: no sandals or flip-flops allowed. Finally, you'll need a T-Shirt or long-sleeved shirt: you can't wear tank tops. You don't need to wear white and red clothes, but you will feel more included in the experience if you do!
As for bringing your camera on the run—don’t even think about it! One of the most common reasons people get removed from the bull run is carrying a camera. Even if it’s strapped to you (like a GoPro), it’s technically not allowed, and the police will be well within their rights to prevent you from running if they catch you with one. The same rule applies to water bottles, backpacks, or any other loose items. The police will remove anyone they catch carrying extra gear. A rolled up newspaper is the only thing you can have in your hand!
If you need to have your phone on you, that's okay! Just make sure it remains in a zippered pocket or in a thin waist pouch that fits inside your pants, like this one. And don't take your phone out during the run—the police will fine you if they catch you!
There’s no fee to run and no need to register in advance. Simply show up dressed for action and be ready to follow these guidelines. If you’ve read and followed the rules, then you’re all set for the thrill of a lifetime. Buena suerte!
